Superintendent's Message
Good afternoon RSE community,
This is Denise Sullivan, Superintendent. I would like to inform you that our school will be closed and is not scheduled to reopen until until March 30th, as per the order by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
I want to assure you that the Board of Education and I have been monitoring this situation throughout the weekend, and all week, and that our first priority is truly the health and well-being of our staff and children.
Please be sure that your family is taking appropriate measures in keeping this virus contained. This would include:
-Staying home and out of public places - The reason for this executive order is to contain the virus. If we are out and about, closing our schools will be useless.
-Continue encouraging your family to wash hands frequently and take all necessary safeguards to remain germ free.
Our county officials have been a tremendous support and I respect the leadership that County Executive Steve Bellone has provided in making these difficult decisions. Our faculty and staff have been incredible in preparing for this situation as well.
At this point your child DOES NOT HAVE to complete the home packets that were sent home. We would like you to preserve them in the event that we need to close beyond the two week order and will need to provide home instruction.
Due to this executive order, it is believed that these are not days that would have to be made up, but that still remains to be seen. There may come a time when we will have to account for school days. If that time should come, we will enact our At-Home Learning Plan. I will be posting an email that provides some educational programs that your child may enjoy online, while they are home. You could have them engage in those and of course, there is always reading a good book!
For our families who receive our assistance with free lunch, we will be reaching out to you and offering assistance during this closure.
I will be in touch, as more information is coming by the minute. Please keep your family safe and close.
